Part of the booming cafe scene along Petaling Street, Merchants Lane occupies what was once a brothel. However, one would be hard pressed to realise that upfront with its amazingly cosy atmosphere. A contender for one of KL's most beautiful cafes, this is definitely the lunch spot for avid Instagrammers.
It is not all looks, as the menu is comprehensive with good choices of Chinese-Western fusion dishes. Our favourite would be the 'South China Sea', which features two tender grilled salmon fillets, complemented by runny poached eggs, hash and mango salsa. The salmon is tender and the mango salsa does well to add a pleasant sweetness to the dish.
We also savoured 'The Taukey' which is a beef burger served with cheese, peanut sauce, fried egg in a charcoal bun with a side of criss-cut fries. We love the peanut sauce as it complements the thick and juicy patty just right. The criss-cut fries is also well seasoned which helps to complete the dish.
To wash it all down, we tried out their rose honey milk which is a fragrant affair with its edible rose garnish. It is the perfect drink for those who are more caffeine sensitive.
